Theodore Kuchar, Conductor

Stanislav Khristenko, piano

The National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine was established in Lviv in 1902, a city known as one of the great cultural centers of eastern Europe, where music has always occupied the center and spirit of its existence.

The Lviv Philharmonic Orchestra (Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine) was officially established on September 27, 1902 as, on this day, the first concert of the newly formed orchestra took place in the Philharmonic Theater of Count Stanislav Skarbko (presently known as the Ukrainian National Academic Theater of Drama named after Maria Zankovetska). The Principal Conductor of the orchestra was Ludwik Vitezslav Czelianski (1870 – 1931). Henryk Jarecki and Henryk Meltzer Szczawinski worked alongside him as conductors of the orchestra.

Since 2018, the orchestra has been fruitfully cooperating with the famous American conductor of Ukrainian origin Theodore Kuchar, who is the main guest conductor of the orchestra, and from May 2022 – chief conductor of the Lviv National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine.

Program to include:

  • Brahms Piano -- Concerto #1 in D Minor
  • Brahms -- Tragic Overture, Op. 81
  • Sibelius--Symphony #2 in D Major, Op. 43
