The Rose Room Art Gallery in Peabody Auditorium presents the “CPSA DC-117 Colored Pencil Art” exhibition from January 4 through January 30.  The Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA) District Chapter 117 out of St. Augustine will have a free reception open to the public on January 4 from 2 to 4 PM.

Colored pencils have been upgraded from craft to art through the use by contemporary artists and exhibitions in museums and cultural centers around the world. They are often used in combination of exhibits with cultural events as at the Portland Art Museum, OR, celebrating diverse communities.

District Chapter 117, out of St. Augustine, formed in August 2005 under founders Bill Shoemaker and Hanneke Jevons, along with six charter members. CPSA is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting colored pencil art. Established in 1990, it provides a forum for education, communication, and the recognition of colored pencil artists. Through a website, magazine, conventions, exhibits, workshops, seminars and product research, CPSA provides a link between the artist, the general public, and the art community. More information about the national organization can be found at www.cpsa117.org.

The Rose Room Art Gallery in Peabody Auditorium presents the Music to my Eyes Exhibition by EMMA from February 1 through March 3.  EMMA is a group of experimental mixed media artists guided by Gail Bokor who are based at the Art League of Daytona Beach.  The reception which is free to the public is on February 1 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM in the gallery.  Parking is free behind the Peabody building.

The artists in EMMA started with a class in mixed media and became an activist group of artists which looks for projects that give them an incentive to produce themed works. Last spring, they presented a program providing art that visually impaired visitors were allowed to touch, rub their hands around and interact with the art.  Working with the Conklin Center for the Blind, they held two exciting receptions which even included a musical performance by visually impaired artists.  This year, they are focused on the impact music has upon people, and hope to inspire children to  investigate their feelings when listening to music and perhaps capture those feelings in artistic ways.
